Meet Mary Sovick, owner of Fireline Training & Consulting, course developer, and instructor.
Professional Qualifications
Mary Sovick is a significant leader in the effort to elevate writing standards in the fire service. Mary is a retired firefighter from South Metro Denver Fire Rescue. She is an adjunct instructor at the National Fire Academy and at Colorado State University in the Fire and Emergency Services Administration degree program. Mary also provides writing instruction for a growing number of officer development programs. Mary is a nationally recognized speaker, trainer, consultant, and author.
Since 1996, Mary’s “Ignite Your Writing!” seminars have inspired firefighters and EMTs from fire and rescue agencies nationwide to believe in the importance of writing respectable documents. Additionally, participants have left the class empowered with improved writing skills.
Mary has edited a variety of fire service projects such as strategic plans, training manuals, and other committee-generated documents. She has assisted numerous departments with developing and/or objectively evaluating written components of promotional exams.
Mary is an associate member of the IAFC Professional Development Committee, the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, and the American Society for Training and Development. Mary is a member of theĀ International Society of Fire Service Instructors and the American Society for Training and Development.
Educational background
Mary is actively involved in ongoing education. She completed a Masters of Education Degree with a focus on Adult Education and Training from Colorado State University and a masters level technical writing certificate from the University of Denver. This combination of current, updated, and progressive training, plus Mary’s extensive experience and lively audience rapport, allows her to bring dynamic, highly relevant, and innovative instruction to her audiences.
